Gravel is sold by nominal size, and the size decides the job. Too small and it locks up and stops draining. Too large and it is uncomfortable to walk on and works its way out of a driveway.

The things people ask before booking.
20mm or 40mm clean stone, depending on the design. The word that matters is clean: it has to be washed and free of fines, because the fines are what silt a soakaway up and stop it working. Say what it is for and we will send the right grade.
Usually 20mm, and angular rather than rounded if the drive slopes at all. Rounded shingle looks better but rolls under tyres and migrates downhill, so on anything other than a level drive it needs edging to stay put.
About 50mm over a membrane for a border or path, and a little more on a driveway. Going deeper is not better: it gets soft to walk on and to drive over. What matters far more is what is underneath it.
No. Gravel is rounded and free-draining by design, so it does not lock together under compaction the way Type 1 does. Use it where you want water to pass through, and Type 1 where you want a base that stays put.
Around 1.8 tonnes per cubic metre. Send the area and depth with your enquiry and we will do the arithmetic, because gravel is one of the easiest materials to under-order by half.
