The things people ask before booking.
You can physically, but the lorry cannot legally lift it. The weight allowance is set by the vehicle, not the size of the box, so a 12 yard filled with rubble is over the limit while it still looks half empty. The driver will refuse the lift and the waste stays on your site. For anything inert, we would put you in a 6 yard.
More than a smaller skip. The lorry needs to reverse in, tip a 3.7m box off the back and drive out again, so you want clear width, no low cables and firm ground. If you are unsure, describe the access when you enquire and we will check it against the vehicle before booking.
For light bulky waste, usually yes: you are paying one delivery and one collection instead of two. For heavy waste it is the wrong comparison, because a 12 yard cannot legally take the load in the first place.
With a council permit, and it is worth asking early. Larger skips take up more of the highway and some councils are stricter about where they will allow one. We apply on your behalf and will tell you straight away if the council is likely to refuse.
Tell us the split. Often the answer is a 12 yard for the strip-out and a separate grab or tipper for the inert material, which works out cheaper than trying to make one skip do both. That is the kind of thing we route for a living.
